Rooney’s penalty salvages draw for Everton
Wayne Rooney’s late penalty was all that Everton needed to force Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at the Merseyside derby.
Liverpool had opened scoring through Mohamed Salah few minutes to the end of first half.
Salah has at least two defenders touch tight to him on the right-hand side of the penalty area but he turns away from Cuco Martina, steps past another in blue and then curls a beautiful dipping shot into the top corner with his left foot.
Rooney restore parity in the 77th minute of the game when he scored a penalty at the Merseyside derby. The Everton captain steps up and smashes it down the middle.
Despite having 70 percent of ball possession, Liverpool could not break down the Everton defence as both side settled for a point each.
