Open Letter To Governor Adegboyega Oyetola Of Osun State

Mr Governor Sir,

Ramadan Kareem.

I greet you with sincere sense of respect as a true-born son of great Yorubaland. Congratulations on your achievements so far as the governor of Osun State. E ku ise ilu. Olorun a yonda aseyori ni rere fun yin o.

My name is Olayinka Agboola. I live and work in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State from where we publish Parrot Xtra Magazine and the online version, pmparrot.com in the past 18 years. We equally run a radio show, Parrot Xtra Hour On Radio.

We met a couple of times during your stint as the Chief of Staff to Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. I believe two or three of your present aides know me very well sir.

I will try as much as possible to keep ‘journalistic jargons’ out of this missive to you, Mr Governor.

Without considering being labelled a sycophant, it will not be out of place to confess that I am one of your silent admirers. I have listened to you several times telling the ‘origin’ of your ILERI OLUWA campaign slogan. I am not afraid to submit here that I am also a practically God-fearing Nigerian even though I am always quick to tell my friends that it is not easy to ‘befriend’ and walk with the ALMIGHTY.

In essence, it is because of your story about ‘ILERIOLUWA’ that got me to keep close tabs on your activities sir.

Now, to go straight to my message. And before doing that, I must thank you and bless God’s name on your behalf for successfully hosting the epochal burial of our friend and brother, Comrade Yinka Odumakin on Saturday, April 24, 2021. Thank you for being the perfect host. I salute Alhaja too for taking personal interest in my sister, Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin. Odun a jinna si ara won.

Dear Mr Governor, I must congratulate you for being a lucky man too. Why? It is because you have, perhaps, been paying as much attention as possible to infrastructural development of your state.

The over eight-kilometer Moro-Yakoyo-Ipetumodu-Asipa-Ife/Akure Expressway that you recently commissioned lends credence to the face that you are a man well-loved by God (Allah).

As I was driving out of the sleepy town of Moro, Ife North Local Government Area of your state, with our crew members, I just asked myself the agitating question…what if ‘Governor Adegboyega Oyetola had not rebuilt this road before the untimely demise of Comrade Odumakin? What would people have said?’

You know, sir, the burial of the late Afenifere spokesman brought some of the most powerful and influential Nigerians to your state. And they all passed through that road that your administration recently re-built.

I know that your decision to work on the road was a ‘pointer to your agenda of an industrialised Osun’. But what people (both friends and foes) would have said if the road was in a bad shape is better left imagined.

Mr Governor, I am not a Pastor or an Imam or Traditionalist, all I know is that God loves you so much. There is another Governor in the South West that is well loved equally. (This is a story for another day).

Yes. May Yinka Odumakin’s soul rest in peace. But God has His Own way of doing things – someone was being buried and it was an opportunity for you to showcase an achievement and you did not need to pay public relations wizards- and the mileage you got, (and you are still getting) from it goes beyond dollars, pound sterling and naira combined. You are a beloved of God indeed.

As I said earlier, I must never lay claim to being a seer but I know you are well loved by Allah. And this is the essence of my message. You need to focus more on God. You need to be more attentive to Him so that He can fight your battles for you. Serve Allah, and by extension, humanity more. You do not need most of the battles you are busy fighting at present. Victory belongs only to God.

The second term ticket you are heavily ‘strategizing’ to ‘grab’ is in God’s mighty HANDS. Serve God first and see what HE will do in your life.

I can imagine the pressure you are being subjected to on the issue of ‘second term’. Over 90 percent of those promoting your second term project are not doing so because they love you ‘die’. Na you dem dey chop!

Kindly permit me, Mr Governor to stop here. I am absolutely sure that I have communicated my musings to you the best way I can. May Allah help us all.

While praying for sound health, divine protection and long life for you, I wish you the best in life and great reckoning in Providence sir.

Yours faithfully,

Olayinka Agboola (Mr Parrot)
