Ramatu Yunusa, the wife of Sanusi Gusau, leader of the Zamfara State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees, who was nine months pregnant when she was kidnapped two weeks ago gave birth to a baby girl while in the captors’ camp.

After receiving a N15 million ransom, the kidnappers also released her.

The woman and the newborn infant are both receiving medical care in one of the hospitals in Gusau town, according to a family member.

He claimed that N10 million had been given as the ransom at first, but the criminals demanded more money when the wife gave birth to a girl.

“We paid to the bandits the sum of N10m ransom as they demanded, but as they were about to release her, she was delivered of a baby girl.

“They told us that we must also pay additional amount for the newborn baby.

“So, after series of difficult negotiations, the bandits agreed to collect another sum of N5m as ransom for the baby.

“Both the mother and her newborn baby are currently in hospital here in Gusau town.”
