Employer allegedly pushed teenage house-help from four-storey building in Anambra

In Anambra, a 14-year-old girl survived after allegedly being pushed from a four-story building by her employer.

According to reports, the incident occurred in Awada, a densely populated area of Onitsha.

A source in the area said the girl, Ijeoma Nwafo, who is a house-help to one Mrs Nnenna Onwanna, was usually beaten by her boss at every slight provocation.
The source said the minor sustained several injuries after being thrown from the four-storey building. According to the source, she is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Onitsha.
“They live on the fourth floor of a house in Awada, and her madam was beating her on Saturday when she ran out of the house, and in a bid to escape, she jumped down from the four-storey and landed on the fence, fitted with security wires.
“However, she survived as she was pulled out by some residents of the area and was promptly rushed to the hospital for medical attention,” the source said.
Meanwhile, police authorities in the state have confirmed the incident, saying that the woman has been arrested.
The state police command’s spokesperson, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, tagged it a case of attempted murder.
Ikenga said, “The Anambra State Police Operatives at about 4 pm on 2/7/2022 have arrested one Mrs Onwanna Nnenna (F) aged 29yrs old from Nando, Anambra East in a case of attempted murder that happened at Otu street, Awada, Onitsha.
“Preliminary information shows that the victim, one miss Ijeoma Nwafor (F), 14-year-old, a native of Achalla was pushed down from a four-storey building by the suspect when she was beating her. Other details reveal that the victim is a house help to the suspect.”
Ikenga said Mrs Nnenna is currently in police custody and the victim is receiving treatment in a hospital, and that further development on the matter will be communicated.
