The Edo State Government has announced plans to begin enforcing the ban on driving unregistered vehicles in Benin and its environs.

This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Managing Director of the Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA), Mr Dennis Oloriegbe, and made available to reporters in Benin.

He stated that the move is part of an effort to reduce the use of unregistered vehicles in criminal activities in the state.

Oloriegbe stated that the crackdown would also include vehicles with severed license plates and those using fake license plates.

Others are driving with masked license plates or using state government license plates illegally.

To prevent such vehicles from being impounded, the EDSTMA boss warned car dealers to ensure that every unregistered vehicle leaving their marts displays their duly registered dealer number.
