The Lagos State Government has sought the support of the Nigerian Police force in its bid to ensure compliance of the new environmental laws in the State.
The need for this support was reiterated by the Commissioner for the Environment, Dr. Babatunde Adejare during a courtesy visit by the Management of the Ministry to the Lagos State Police Commissioner in Ikeja on Friday.
While taking the Police Commissioner through the activities of his Ministry, Adejare said that the synergy between the Ministry of the Environment and the Lagos State Police command was important to guarantee the success of the new reforms in the environment sector.
The Environment Commissioner said that the successes recorded in years past in the environment sector could not have been achieved without the support and cooperation of the Police Force. He therefore sought more consistent and harmonious relationship between the Ministry and Lagos Police Command.
His words: “Through your support, we have achieved a lot over the years and we have come to solicit more to achieve cleaner, healthier, safer and livable Lagos”
In his response, the Police Commissioner, Mr. Imohinmi Oluwole Edgal thanked the environment family for its visit and assured the ministry of his unalloyed support anytime it is required.
Imohimi also commended the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment for its efforts in ensuring a healthier and cleaner environment devoid of hoodlums through the parks and gardens initiative, stressing that it had assisted in the reduction in criminal activities in the state.
He, thereafter, called for a collaboration between the Ministry of the Environment and other ministries to ensure that unapproved buildings and unauthorized markets do not deface the environment.
