Agbaje, Doherty battle for Lagos PDP guber ticket

About 3000 delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State are currently voting to determine who will become the governorship candidate of the leading opposition party in the state ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The contenders are Jimi Agbaje who was the party’s candidate in 2015 and Adedeji  Doherty who had been seeking the ticket since 2007 without success.

The delegates are casting their votes according to their local governments in the presence of monitoring officers from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The election is being conducted by the National Working Committee (NWC) panel chaired by Senator Victor Kassim Oyofo with other members including Chief (Mrs) Chidi Onyemelukwe (secretary); Alhaji Ibrahim Michika and Mr. Daisi Ogedengbe.

The primary election is taking place amidst heavy security at the Yard 156 event centre along Kudirat Abiola way Oregun Ikeja.

There is tension at the venue presently as mammoth crowd of members of the party struggled to gain entrance into the main venue.
