Yuletide: LASG opens dispatch centre to manage emergencies

The Lagos State Government has opened a dispatch centre in Fadeyi for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency to improve response time to emergencies in the state.

The state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, said the new Lagos Response Unit was adequately equipped with emergency equipment to complement the existing dispatch points at the Cappa Oshodi and Lekki areas of the state.

The General Manager of LASEMA, Mr. Adeshina Tiamiyu, said the unit would help the agency respond faster to emergencies in the Fadeyi area.

He urged residents of the state to be safety conscious during the Yuletide and always call the toll-free lines of 121 and 767 at the least suspicion of any emergency.

He said, “The Fadeyi dispatch centre will cover a part of Ikorodu Road and terminate at Mile 12, and it will go eastward towards Yaba, Surulere and the back of Mushin.

“The dispatch centre will help us because it is on a busy road and we will respond quicker to emergencies in the area. However, it is important that residents are safety conscious. During the Yuletide, two things are usually prevalent: fire incidents and road accidents.

“Many of the fire incidents and road crashes can be prevented by observing safety guides. Always check your tyres, wipers, and other accessories in your vehicle. Drive within the approved speed limit. At home, don’t put your gas cylinders inside the house and avoid the use of candles. Don’t put petrol when the generator is running.”

Tiamiyu said the government was preparing to open more units in the Epe and Ikorodu areas in 2018.
